Amazing Activities To Do In Costa Rica You Can’t Do At Home

Ok, you’ve done all the famous things to do in Costa Rica, what can you do while you have some free time in Jaco Beach, Playa Hermosa, Los Sueños, Central Pacific, Costa Rica?

1. Go to Jaco Walk, (1st to Banco BAC with your passport for $$ exchange), across is Copy Center, make a copy of your passport, 1 side picture & details, other side with your entry stamp!  Very smart to have!

2. Walk on any Central Pacific beach here in the Central Pacific, BUT only after checking the online Tide schedule, and try to avoid the hottest part of the day from 11 am to 2 pm on the beach.  Our Sunsets are world famous and start earlier than most, here about a little after 5 pm.

3. Visiting the North end of Jaco Beach at low tide enables you to visit the tropical island-like Monkey Beach, and on the way, you’ll see the beautiful lake-like Jaco Estuary.   Fantastic pics available from here! Fishing Too!   Note: Beachfront dining here at Crocs or Claritas’ or Jaco Hotel or Hotel Tangeri or Koko’s or Selina’s or Hotel Laguna OR our Favorite Sunset happy hour/dinners at Samudio’s or El Point!!!

4. SUNDAY BRUNCH with an Ocean View!  More & more of the above restaurants are offering this!

5. Visit the North End of Playa Hermosa, at low tide; and enjoy the tide pools, or beachfront dining at Las Terrazas, or Vida Hermosa or Bowies’ Pt or a few others….BUT keep an eye out for the big waves!  

6. Learn to Surf or Paddleboard FOR BEGINNERS, SOUTH end of JACO is the best, most speak English! 

7. Go for lunch or play golf at Los Sueños Marina & Golf Resort.  Fantastic sport fishing boats leave here! Close by & lotsa fun at Los Sueños Adventures with Ziplines + a Chocolate tour & other fun things too!          

8. Some of the greatest sunsets are at the mountain top of Villas Caletas Resort, for the highest beachfront sunsets in the area at their Bar & Grill!   Yoga and cool concerts happen here too!

9. Ziplines also are in the area of Playa Hermosa, like at Chiclets, or other nearby fun activities with horses, waterfall repelling, and more at Ocean Park Ranch

10. Visit our dry Carara Rain Forest for great hikes with or without guides, park in their lot!  Its only about 20 minutes north of Jaco and very close to the secret entry into Punta Leona Resort, featuring our famous area white sandy beach, a cool zip line tour, and expensive day passes!

11. Visit the Neo Fauna Rescue Center & Waterfall tour: only 5 minutes north of Jaco offering monkeys & and reptile interactions, sometimes they have a sloth! In Pueblo Nuevo, turn rt  2 min. after gas station!

12. Take a visit to a tropical island, Isla Tortuga, combined with snorkeling, will be a highlight of your trip!

13. Take a trip to Manuel Antonio, but read about it first. It’s a whole day of fun!  NOW OPEN Mondays TOO!

14. Play golf at the Los Suenos 18-hole Iguana Golf Course OR go for lunch or dinner at the many restaurants and then walk around the marina, it’s very impressive and perfect for first dates!

15. Check out Jaco’s Central Park, Johannes Danker, especially on the weekends with arts & crafts & music.

16. Take the kids to the Jaco Public Library & Skateboard Park & REC area 1 block east of Jaco Bay condos

17. Go to Central America’s only Air-Conditioned movie theatre in a beach town, behind Jaco’s KFC in Plaza Coral: https://ccmcinemas.com/cines/6/ CCM Cinemas.

18. Have a meaningful close encounter with an iguana, by tossing them cut-up fruits of all types, BUT keep your distance as they are not pets, but mini dinosaurs with sharp teeth!

19. Jaco Walk offers Jennifer’s  Aurora yoga studio, exercise classes, day spa, and lots of great restaurants at all prices including Sushi, Seafood, Fusion, Natural, Tipico, Pizza, Ice-Cream, Bakery, Empanadas, Steak house, and the newest family activity:  Miniature Golf!!!

20. Get a real, ahem, certified massage, lots of great ones are in Jaco, like Acqua, with spa treatment options.

21. Get teeth cleaning or checkup from great dentists in Jaco, (Dr. Alonso’s Crystal Dental is our favorite!)

22. Rent a horse, or ATV all-terrain vehicle, or moto or bicycle, there are lots of options & terrains to visit!

23. Visit waterfalls in Bijagual, or Pura Vida Gardens, or NeoFauna or further away towards Manuel Antonio!  

24. Workout in a Gym, there are at least 6 now in JACO, with various prices, classes and equipment!

25. People watch on Jaco’s Main Street (Av Diaz) enjoying quality El Barco Gelateria & Rebels Ice Cream OR $2 Margaritas & tapas at Mono Verde or great shrimp tacos & sports @ Public Hse, or a few great Bakeries like Artesanal or Pachi’s Pan or Musmani or other cool outdoor places to eat/drink with a view!
         

26. Check out Jaco’s $6 cheap & tasty local buffets: our fave is “Rustico” across from Gym/ Macrobiotica de Vida or “Soda Garabito” by Oceano & on Costanera’s Marea Alta or Pura Vida 3 across from KFC. They pop up frequently and are pretty good for the price!       

27. Take a Costa Rican cooking class from Jaco author Melissa Guzman www.recipesfromcostarica.com/

28. Try Jerah’s Thai place or excellent Indian restaurants, or our many Sushi restaurants or mariscarias’ fresh local fish!

29. Check out a sports bar: the newest is Gringos’ or Public House or Oz or Gallo Pinto or at least 10 others.

30. OF COURSE visit our most famous tours, which include the Alligatorman tour in Tarcoles, & the famous Monkey Tours! 

31. Go ask for forgiveness (in English) or be thankful for having a great vacation, either at Horizon Church or in Hebrew at Izu’s Chabad Jaco, or meditate in front of the ocean during a beautiful sunrise or sunset!!
